Problems
This project consisted of land clearing, excavation, and utility prep for homesites on a 40-acre development. VKM completed the excavation, earthmoving, hauling, and shaping necessary to build a 250-foot-long, 7-foot-high earthen dam to create a recreational 7.5-acre lake.
Key project elements:
- Construction of an emergency spillway, core trench, and lake drain
- 12-inch gate valve and concrete drain pipe spillway
- Over 25,000 CY of earth and spoil moved
- Stream repair over 1000 feet using stone and gravel to manage flow and erosion

Solutions
A comprehensive strategy of heavy civil works including:
- Erosion and sediment control implementation
- Hydrologic modeling for dam sizing and outlet structure design
- Dewatering plan with well points and temporary diversion channels
- Engineered backfill placement and compaction monitoring
Result
This project is similar to Greenbrier Dam, involving lake and dam construction, dewatering (well points), excavation, spoil removal, and compaction.
